Highburton CE (VC) First School

Music has a power of forming the character and should therefore be introduced into the education of the young. (Aristotle)

Music is an integral part of school life at Highburton CE (VC) First School.  Every class receives one music lesson a week as well as Whole School Singing.

In Reception and Year 1 music teaching and learning is covered through singing and untuned instruments so that children can immediately be music makers.  Year 2 children also learn through song but are given the added opportunity of reading a score to play miniature hand bells.

In KS2 all our children are given the opportunity to play a woodwind (recorder), string (ukulele) and brass instrument (cornet, baritone, trombone), learning to read music notation, make musical decisions through improvisation and generally enjoy making lots of music.

There are many opportunities for our children to perform to an audience as they progress through school.  Please enjoy some of the talented performances seen every week in the classroom by clicking on the links below.
